Whats happening in Brisbane this week
Heyo folks! Hope the weather is keeping you cheery and ready for the marvel of a long weekend that’s about to grace us with its presence in a few days. In the meantime here’s what the hap is in Bris this week.
Get loud and ludicrous before the weekend even hits as Adelaide 4-piece Larsen bring their Soho-esk grunge to The Milk Factory for their first ever national tour celebrating the release of their album “Weightless Again”. Supported by local lads The Peirce Brosnans and Electric Zebra, this is a school night worth losing some sleep for Larsen
Friday night sees Black Bear Lodge playing host to a double headliner from Brisbane locals Some Jerks and Thigh Master. With both bands releasing debut albums last year, they’ve joined forces to create a night of alternative garage rock.
I hope you start your Saturday with a lil snooze because its full of bangers for all of your desired soundwaves. If you’re after some truthful lyricism sailing over the top of overdriven guitars, Brisbane four-piece rock outfit Young Lions have got your back, playing The Foundry as well as a sneaky all ages show at yours truly Foundry Records, for the recent release of their album “Mr Spaceman”.
The Triffid is playing host to the Third Annual Newstead Roots Festival which is happening 1pm-1am, allowing for the weekend party festivities to really get started early. With an eclectic bunch of acts there’s something for everyone, from the acoustic driven angelic vocals of Angharad Drake to the “world fuelled rebellious surf rock” that is Caravãna Sun.
If you’re weekend is screaming “Warehouse party!” then we’ve got you covered with Psych Night VII. The gents behind psych rock Magenta Voyeur have been running these warehouse gigs for a couple of years now and there’s no disappointment. With a stellar lineup of psychedelic funk groovers, byo booties for boogying are essential.
And last but not least, one of our favourite drinking holes in West End is turning six! The End, proud supporter of all things rainbow, delicious and musical, are hosting a fab lineup of artists including our beautiful bris-pop boy Jeremy Neale (solo).
So all in all, there’s a bunch of beaut gigs to get your booties too this long weekend. Enjoy the vibes, the sunshine and rad tunage.
